A mouse took a stroll through a deep, dark wood. A fox saw the mouse and the mouse looked good… words from the child’s novel ‘The Gruffalo’ written by Julia Donaldson. The story tells of a mouse’s journey through a wood and the creatures he meets. Here at NJS we are lucky enough to have our own little wood, pond, allotment area and a lot more. I, along with Mr Hayward and a team of year 4 and 5 pupils, have designed a redevelopment project dubbed ‘The Gruffalo Project’.
The aim of the Gruffalo Project is to redevelop and enhance our outdoor environment so it can provide opportunities for children from both Norton Infant and Norton Junior schools to immerse themselves in the great outdoors in a fun and interactive way. The developed area will enable pupils across the schools to interact with the natural environment accessing a range of Geographical and Scientific knowledge, skills and understanding.
The project runs on a Wednesday night from 3:30pm to 4:30pm and on a Thursday lunchtime.
